Definitely not! What is concerning you the most? Are you concerned that the classes will be too much for you? Variations, modifications and support are given throughout the session. The classes are made accessible and you can work at your level. You could try the 1:1 sessions. Remember, you are your energy not your age! If you want to do yoga, then DO yoga! You will be helped. You are safe if you work at your level and do the options offered.
It is common for people to say this to me. If I have heard this once , I've heard it a 1000 times. Honestly, when I first tried yoga I felt the same. But the teacher I had who started me on my yoga journey reassured me that if I apply about 70% of of my full capacity and hold the stretches for a minimum of 30 seconds then I will slowly progress. I tell my students to think 'stretch and not strain', ease off when it's too much, monitor your own thresholds and work slowly and incrementally through the modifications and variations. Then you will progress. This is a fact. Don't give up on your desire to increase your range of movement. Integrity in the postures (asanas) and form are key for longevity and functionality.
There is no 'right' body shape. Every BODY is a yoga BODY! Try yoga with me. I want you to feel welcome. My ethos is that we need to love who we see in the mirror and not judge anyone. I aim to make sure the language and messages I put out are respectful and inclusive. I have a passion for equality. I will try to make sure you have a safe space to just be yourself. But I am also aware that people are people and make their own choices.
Do not practice any form of exercise if you are in acute pain. Please see your doctor if this is your case. If you are experiencing incontinence and numbness in the feet go to Accident and Emergency at your nearest hospital. However, if your back ache allows you, then yoga will most definitely be therapy to help alleviate the symptoms. I have specific modifications for a range of health conditions. Observe the rule to always avoid pain and take your time, modifying the practice of yoga to suit you. Please complete the health questionnaire before your class and inform your yoga instructor of any health issues.
